Cerafusion Sterilises Indoor Air in 21 German Cinema Halls
Malaysian sterilisation technology Cerafusion™ has been found to be the most effective solution for improving indoor air quality, according to a study conducted by The Fraunhofer Institute for Building Physics (Fraunhofer IBP) in Germany. The study, called the CineCoV Study, was conducted in response to the COVID-19 pandemic to achieve a higher level of hygiene with safer indoor air in cinemas and large halls.
Cerafusion™ was deployed in six cinemas servicing 21 cinema halls with 2,274 seats in Germany since late 2021, and was found to be highly effective and efficient in improving overall ventilation and indoor air sterilisation compared to other selected methodologies. The technology has proven to be particularly effective in reducing the viral load quickly, achieving a 99.97% viral load reduction, according to the study conducted at the Cincinnati cinema in Munich.
The study, funded by the German Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and Media (BKM), evaluated the effectiveness of two air sterilisation technologies against aerosolised viruses. Fraunhofer IBP was commissioned to conduct the study to reduce the risk of infections. The study selected Cerafusion™ Sterilisation Technology and Upper UVC with ventilation operating in both cases.
Medklinn’s Cerafusion™ Sterilisation Technology has been deployed in Aurum Theatre, The Gardens Mall in Kuala Lumpur, and Aurum Theatre, The Mall, Mid Valley Southkey in Johor Baru. The GSC cinema chain is planning to deploy this technology gradually in more locations to enhance the viewing experience and well-being of its customers.
Cerafusion™ is also a green and resource-saving technology that has gained momentum and implemented in other places such as food manufacturing, hotels, restaurants, and gyms & offices. According to Daniel Lu, Chief Technology and Innovation Officer of patent-owner Medklinn International Sdn Bhd, Cerafusion™ technology has gained recognition and acceptance internationally. Independent international research papers reinforce that low-level ozone sterilisation is safe, with no harmful by-products, which Medklinn has been saying for many years.
The study was shared during a briefing by Dr King Yeong Jin, President of the ASHRAE Malaysian Chapter, along with Ir. Ong Ching Loon and Ir. Chen Thiam Leong, MASHRAE past president and MASHRAE Epidemic Task Force Chairman, respectively.
The Malaysian technology has gained popularity among different industries, as it promises to provide a green and resource-saving solution to improve air quality and hygiene. With the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, there is a growing demand for effective and sustainable solutions to combat the spread of the virus, and Cerafusion™ appears to be one such solution.
