KPJ-Backed Charity Clinic Benefits Close to 2 Million Patients, Bridging Access to Healthcare Nationwide

Aimed at serving low-income groups and communities to have access to affordable and high-quality healthcare, KPJ Healthcare Berhad (“KPJ Healthcare” or the “Company”), through its Corporate Responsibility (“CR”) initiative, Klinik Waqaf An-Nur (“KWAN”) has positively impacted close to 2 million patients to date since its inception in 1998.

Over the years, KWAN has grown significantly to comprise a network of 17 outpatient clinics and seven mobile clinics nationwide, equipped with 66 dialysis machines. In 2021, a total of 44,005 patients from underprivileged backgrounds have sought treatment with fees as low as RM5.

From January to June 2022, KWAN’s chain of clinics and dialysis centres have treated 26,403 patients, an increase of 13.8% from 23,207 patients in the same period last year. Additionally, dialysis treatment benefitted 202 patients during the same period, with an overall utilisation rate of 90.18%.

As a result of these initiatives, KPJ Healthcare has recently been named Company of the Year Award: Outstanding National CSR Initiatives by CSR Malaysia during the Sustainability and CSR Malaysia Awards 2022.

Receiving the award on behalf of KPJ Healthcare was Ariesza Noor, Chief Corporate Officer of KPJ Healthcare, accompanied by Haji Zamri Norani, Chief Division of Ummah Development, Waqaf An-Nur Corporation Berhad.

“This award is a testament to KPJ Healthcare’s dedicated efforts to support communities and inculcating deep awareness of the importance of good health. KWAN, through its 24 clinics nationwide, made it a priority to elevate communities and demonstrate the spirit of caring for others. Our efforts will not stop here as we are committed to expanding our network of clinics and dialysis centres, thus making affordable, high-quality healthcare accessible for all,” said Ariesza during the ceremony.

During the award ceremony, KPJ Healthcare also donated RM3.12 million to Dana Klinik Waqaf An-Nur to further sustain and reinforce the operability of the clinics.

KPJ Healthcare’s community outreach programme promotes public health and safety with a view to increase universal access to healthcare nationwide, with RM 9.2 million invested in 2021 for this purpose. The programmes include KWAN, mobile clinics, dialysis centres, baby hatches, public health education programmes, supporting vaccination facilities, Company-wide volunteering programmes and community grievance platforms and channels, among others.

Currently, baby hatches are available in KPJ Ipoh Specialist Hospital, KPJ Johor Specialist Hospital, KPJ Damansara Specialist Hospital, KPJ Tawakkal KL Specialist Hospital, KPJ Seremban Specialist Hospital, KPJ Penang Specialist Hospital and KPJ Perdana Specialist Hospital.
