Sunway Healthcare Group’s KNOW DIABETES Campaign Concludes Successfully
Sunway Healthcare Group (SHG) successfully concluded their latest medical awareness campaign – KNOW DIABETES. Dedicated to shedding light on the prevention and management of diabetes, in conjunction with World Diabetes Day 2021, the awareness campaign was underlined by the release of a free comprehensive e-guidebook on managing diabetes, as well as a four-part webinar series on understanding diabetes and its effects on different parts of the body.
The KNOW DIABETES campaign aimed to enable greater understanding of diabetes by getting the public to ‘KNOW’ its prevention, as well as how to care for and control the health condition. This is in a bid to maximise the number of Malaysians who can say ‘NO’, be it to diabetes or its more serious complications.
Dato’ Lau Beng Long, Managing Director of Sunway Healthcare Group said, “We are glad to have reached over 255,000 Malaysians through this awareness and education campaign, and we hope they will be motivated to take action towards preventing and managing the risk of diabetes. As highlighted before, diabetes continues to be prevalent amongst adults in Malaysia, with over 3.9 million Malaysian adults recorded to be diabetic in 2019. Without proper awareness and understanding of the condition, we are at risk of reaching 7 million by the year 2025. Reportedly, 49% of Malaysians do not even know they are living with diabetes.”
Learning to manage diabetes, one step at a time.
To make information on diabetes even more accessible, consultant endocrinologists – Dr Alexander Tan of Sunway Medical Centre Sunway City (SMC), and Dr Lim Kim Piow of Sunway Medical Centre Velocity KL (SMCV), developed a comprehensive guidebook to provide key information on the different types of diabetes, detection and diagnosis, options for treatment, as well as the various methods to manage the condition from home. The guidebook also details the complications associated with diabetes, as well as tips on prevention and how best to support people with diabetes – especially with COVID-19 in the picture.
The e-guidebook is still available for free public access to better encourage awareness and education of diabetes in Malaysia. Visit https://linktr.ee/KnowDiabetes2021 to download a copy – available in three languages: English, Bahasa Malaysia, and Mandarin.
